To the Board of Supervisors, I live within a short radius of the proposed slaughterhouse. I’m deeply concerned that it’s being presented to the community as a boutique retail store with a slaughterhouse that will have a minimal impact on the community.
However, the elephant in the room is why are the owners of Carson Valley Meats in the process of renting/leasing 13 acres of agriculturally zoned land directly across the river from the property they are seeking to use? This 13 acres can legally support 81 head of livestock. However, if it’s used as a feed lot or holding area a special use permit is required.
That’s for another day. However, it is an expression of their intent to get their foot in the door and to expand beyond their currently stated purpose. I believe subterfuge is in the air.
